  Medical Claims Processing Implementation

Kaiser Permanente, NIS Project (National Insurance Solutions)

Challenge

In 1999 and 2000, Kaiser Permanente began to transition its Mid Atlantic Region sites away from hardcopy claims processing to an automated claims solution process. The HSD Diamond/NEIWS application automated the processing of claims, referrals, provider management, finance and capitation.  LTC was contracted to train a 120 member project team and end-users.

Approach

Kaiser’s 120 member team included functional leads, functional managers, trainers and project leads. In addition to the vigorous training that LTC supplied, our team also trained all staff departments in the Mid-Atlantic Region on the automated claims system while providing support services for the scope of the project which included identifying professional development resources for NIS implementation team, establishing guidelines for registrar administration, developing and maintaining the MAS NIS training database, managing external and internal training resources throughout project phases, supporting end users post training, measuring functional area on the job performance, evaluating training programs, and managing the established training budget.

Result

The collaboration between LTC and Kaiser was a successful endeavor. Our teams were advantageous in assisting the client with not only meeting, but exceeding its predetermined goals.
